Hoping to raise the profile of arts education in public schools, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced Saturday he has formed a new task force to help carry out the arts initiative.
Torlakson made his announcement at the Coronado School for the Arts where a statewide forum on arts education was held Friday and Saturday.
The initiative, known as CREATE CA (Core Reforms Engaging Arts to Educate), brings together leaders in education, business and the arts with the goal of examining the current state of arts education in California and broadening the educational vision. Part of the focus of the weekend forum was the first meeting of the new task force, which is expected to deliver its report to Torlakson by the fall.
